Keyword research is the foundation of every successful SEO strategy. Get it wrong and you'll spend months creating content that never ranks for terms your customers actually search. Get it right and you'll attract a steady stream of qualified, ready-to-buy visitors from Google.
Step 1: Start With Your Services
List every service you offer. For each one, brainstorm how a Miami customer might search for it. Think about the problem they're trying to solve, not the name of your service. "Leaky pipe" and "water damage" often get more searches than "plumbing services."
Step 2: Add Miami-Specific Modifiers
Add local modifiers to every keyword: Miami, Miami FL, Miami-Dade, and neighborhood names like Coral Gables, Hialeah, Doral, Kendall, Homestead, Miami Beach, and Brickell. "HVAC repair" becomes "HVAC repair Homestead FL" — much less competitive and much more likely to convert.
Step 3: Use Free Tools to Validate Volume
Google Keyword Planner (free), Google Search Console (shows what you already rank for), and Google's autocomplete are all free tools that give you real data on search volume. Don't target keywords with zero searches — validate that real people are searching for them.
Step 4: Prioritize by Intent
Not all keywords are equal. "What is SEO" is informational. "SEO agency Miami" is transactional — someone ready to hire. Focus on transactional and commercial keywords for your service pages and informational keywords for your blog.
